Fun Facts

Most Sunday mornings you’ll find Dr. Flynn learning to sheep herd with her beloved dog, Japhy.

Dr. Flynn has run 5 road marathons and 1 trail marathon. She also used to do Triathlons. She’s currently off due to an injury but working on getting back out there! Her dream is to run ultra marathons in her old age.

Dr. Flynn is currently learning Norwegian for fun.

Dr. Flynn mostly disliked children’s movies until having her beautiful daughter who has convinced her others! Now she loves Frozen II, Despicable Me and many more.

Dr. Flynn writes poetry in her spare time. Her main inspirations are Rupi Kaur, E. E. Cummings and Mary Oliver.

Dr. Jessica Flynn

Clinical and Counselling Psychologist

Dr. Jessica Flynn (she/her) is registered to provide services to children, adolescents and adults with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) with specialization in Clinical Psychology and Counselling Psychology.

Training/Work Experience: Dr. Flynn completed her Ph.D. from Kent State University. As part of her clinical training, Dr. Flynn completed clinical placements in child, adolescent and adult outpatient centres and participated in a trial of an acceptance-based cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) for anxiety. Additionally, she completed a 1-year clinical residency at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah working in outpatient, day treatment and residential services. In addition to working at MindFit, Dr. Flynn is involved in developing and providing Dialectical Behaviour Therapy to those suffering from severe and prolonged mental health difficulties.

Presenting Concerns: Dr. Flynn has significant experience working with children, adolescents and adults with a variety of presenting concerns, including:

  • Trauma-related concerns
  • Grief
  • Emotion regulation challenges
  • Personality disorders
  • Parent-child relational problems
  • Neurodivergence (e.g., ADHD, Autism)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression and low mood
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Difficulties coping with stress
  • Adjustment to life stressors

Approach: Dr. Flynn integrates knowledge of empirically based treatments and research on meditation with her wide-ranging experience as a therapist and contemplative practitioner. Her goal is to use this approach to help children, adolescents, and adults suffering from chronic and complex emotional problems to begin living happy, fulfilling lives. Dr. Flynn has in-depth training and experience in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Triple P (behavioral parenting), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and self-compassion and mindfulness techniques. She incorporates these therapeutic modalities with a deeply compassionate, anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ inclusive approach to help ALL individuals feel treated, supported and cared for, no matter the complexity of their problems.

Outside of MindFit: Dr. Flynn loves spending time with her ultra-creative daughter, sheep herding with her dog and grabbing a moment with friends. She also enjoys hikes in the woods and quiet time to read, write and play puzzles and games.
