MindFitness for All

Being a 21st century kid and teen is complicated. Why? In today’s world, social isolation is real, sleep deprivation, anxiety, and depression are on the rise, the challenge of standing out while fitting in is present, and there is a considerable uncertainty about the future.

At MindFit, we are here to help. Our team has experience working with children and adolescents with a wide range of concerns. Click here to find out more. We have also developed a number of effective specialized treatment programs focused on providing exceptional mental healthcare to children and adolescents.

Our coaches have been described by youth and families as “relatable”, “easy to talk to”, and “doctors who get that kids and teens are frequently misunderstood.” At MindFit, we strive to make youth feel supported, understood, safe, and accepted.

Parenting is hard. Parenting a child with mental health concerns can be even more challenging. It takes a village to raise a child and at MindFit, we are ready to join your village.

We offer a variety of parent training programs which draw from empirically supported approaches including: parent management training, positive parenting, collaborative problem solving, and behavioral and emotional skills training. The goals of these programs are to teach/enhance parent skills to help you manage your child’s challenging behaviours, more effectively interact/communicate with your teens, and collaboratively problem solve with your youth.

Our parent sessions are designed to be relevant, supportive, educational, strategy-based, and advice-focused for parents who want to know how they can best protect and support their own and their child’s mental health.

At MindFit, we know that relationships can be difficult. We offer short-term family therapy with the goal of helping everyone in the family better understand one another. Family therapy can be beneficial when families are feeling overwhelmed, stuck in the same unhelpful behaviours and patterns, dealing with changes associated with stressors (e.g., moving, trauma), and wondering how to best support a family member with a mental health challenge.

We strive to create a safe space for family members to feel supported and improve interactions and communications with one another. We seek to understand old patterns that are not working and help you to create new patterns that foster growth, healing, connection, and resilience.

      Our approaches include:

  • Solution Focused Therapy: A goal-oriented, future-focused, brief, and solution-focused approach (usually 3-5 sessions)
  • Collaborative Problem Solving: A non-punitive approach to solving problems collaboratively and proactively
  • Family Based Therapy (FBT) for Eating Disorders (also referred to as the Maudsley method): Manualized therapy that empowers parents to join with the healthy part of their child against the eating disorder.

At MindFit, we see adults for a variety of challenges, such as tic disorders, body-focused repetitive behaviours (e.g., hair-pulling, skin-picking), obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression, ADHD, marital/family stress, and sleep disturbances/disorders. We also have expertise and experience in helping individuals with chronic pain, somatic symptoms (e.g., headaches), transitions to new roles, and coping with stress, uncertainty, loneliness, and COVID-19.

Our team aims to provide you with a safe place to grow, learn about yourself, and meet your mental health and wellness goals.
